Pacing nervously back and forth, Tammy was preparing for her slot in the district figure skating competition. If she did well in this competition, she'd go onto Nationals, and that was a big deal. She knew her friends and her boyfriend would be up in the stands, cheering her on, but she was still nervous.

Finally, it came to Tammy's turn to skate. Taking a deep breath, she stepped onto the ice and got ready to start. She purposely didn't look for anyone she knew, because she knew that would throw her concentration off. As soon as the music started to play, she was lost in her own world. It was a world that only involved her, the music and the ice.

Five minutes later, Tammy stepped back off the ice. She was sweating, and exhausted, but she was smiling delightedly. Her routine had gone fantastically, and she was fairly confident that she would get through to Nationals. She waited for her scores and was pleased to receive four 5.0 and one 5.5. Running back to the locker room, she quickly got showered and dressed again before heading into the rink to find her friends.

"That was amazing Tams!" Peter exclaimed, scooping his girlfriend into his arms and spinning her round.

Tammy giggled. "Thanks!" she said, as Peter set her down. "I hope I get through."

"You will, that was awesome," Connie grinned at her best friend.

"Tams, I've got a table booked for seven thirty at that French restaurant in town. Will we get there in time?" Peter asked, checking his watch anxiously.

"We should do. There are only four more skaters, and then I'll find out if I've qualified for Nationals," Tammy replied, looking at her own watch. "Come on, let's go and watch the rest. There are a couple of really strong skaters still to go, so I've got to hope that my routine was strong enough to compete with them."

"You'll be fine," Peter smiled, taking Tammy's hand and leading her back to the stands where they sat and watched the rest of the competitors. Tammy's fears were eased a little bit when one of the strongest skaters took a tumble after catching her edge on landing a particularly difficult jump.

At 7.15, Tammy and Peter were on their way to the restaurant. Tammy had been delighted when the results had been announced and she'd qualified for Nationals in second place and Peter hd suggested turning their meal into a celebration. Unfortunately, they were now stuck in traffic.

"Ugh! How can there be this much traffic on a Thursday night?" Tammy groaned, hitting her hand off the steering wheel in frustration.

"It's okay Tams, we still have fifteen minutes before we lose our table," Peter replied soothingly, patting Tammy's leg.

Twenty five minutes later, the car had only moved another five feet. Sighing, Tammy turned to Peter. "I'm sorry Petey, we've missed the reservation," she said, her voice full of disappointment. "I can't believe it. The one night we want to go for a meal, and there's all this traffic. I really wanted to celebrate with you," she said, sounding close to tears.

"Hey, hey...it's okay Tams, really. The traffic isn't your fault," Peter replied, lightly stroking Tammy's cheek.

"Yeah, but if we hadn't waited to get the results we would have missed this lot," Tammy said, gesturing out of the window at the non-moving traffic. "I could have gotten the results over the phone."

"It's alright," Peter insisted. "You wouldn't have relaxed until you'd gotten them anyway. Besides...there's always tomorrow," he said with a smile, leaning closer to Tammy and pressing a gentle kiss to her lips. As they broke apart, Tammy returned the smile happily. Peter's right, she thought. There's always tomorrow.
